Johnnie, 17, is an 11th grader who loves old cars, drawing and watching action movies. He also likes to help people, especially his younger brother. Due to family circumstances, Johnnie has challenges around getting to school regularly. Missing so much school has put him behind.
We provided art supplies to Johnnieso he can practice his car sketching skills during free time at school. This incentive was designed by his teacher to encourage Johnnie to get to school on a more regular basis with the goal of improving his overall grades.
According to California Dept. of Education statistics, some high schools in the Sacramento region have truancy rates as high as 91% among their student body. Opportunities to pursue interests can often coax struggling students to improve attendance, leading to better academic performance.
Please help us help even more kids like Johnnie find ways to succeed at school.
